The Rhine Valley

Make the most of your vacation in the Rhine Valley.

Rhine View

We visited the Rhine Valley in 1992, fell in love with it and came back in 1993 to stay. We have been living here ever since and have spent most of the last 20 years exploring and discovering our new home. Although we now know "our valley" well, we continue to find hidden gems, little backwaters not visited by the bulk of tourists.

Whatever interests you :

  • Sightseeing
  • Sport
  • History
  • Cultural Activities
  • Gastronomic(eating and drinking)

you will find that the Rhine Valley has lots to offer you.

I hope that this site will help you to so plan your holiday that "every day counts" and if you enjoy your stay half as much as we enjoyed our first 1992 visit, you will have an unforgettable holiday and be planning your next visit before your return flight takes you home.

So let me be your guide and take you on a tour.

Just a moment before we set off on the tour - a quick summary of the area to be covered.

The Rhine River Valley is perhaps a not too clearly defined region and can mean different things to different people, so let me tell you what it means here for us.

My site covers the stretch from Wiesbaden to Koblenz with the emphasis being on the stretch from Rüdesheim to Koblenz.

The region from Walluf(near Wiesbaden) to Lorch is known as the Rheingau.

For the first 30 km or so of the Rheingau the Rhine departs from its general northerly direction and flows from East to West. This region gives birth to some of Germany’s finest wines thanks to the fact that many of the vineyards are here south facing.

The area from Rüdesheim to Lorch is known as the Mittelrheintal (Middle Rhine Valley) and is characterised by steep hills on both sides of the river.

Rüdesheim to Koblenz is known as the Obreres Mittelrheintal (Upper Middle Rhine Valley!) and has since 2002 been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage.

OK the tour can now begin - enjoy!
