The picture above shows the picnic bench that is the starting off point for the walk.
Another lovely day and it was decided we would go for a walk near the Lorely. There is a magnificent area high above the Rhine - between Bornich and the Lorely where one can choose long or short walks. The reward is high - bird song, the views, the trees and if you are lucky indigenous orchids can also be found.
We started off near "Leiselfeld" and took a steep path down towards the Rhine following old slate walls built to keep animals out of orchards and vineyards.
About 15 mins. later found us in a field of wild primulas- with a view of the Rhine.
We took a path through a wood towards the Lorely and came out into the sunshine again. Just below "Leiselfeld" is a house where the weary Rheinsteig walker can sit down to a glass of wine and a light meal.
Then we took the Rheinsteig path to "Spitznack" where we sat and watched the barges chugging their way up or down river
decided we would be lazy and drive to the Loreley Beer Garden. So we
took the path through the fields and woods back to the car and headed
along the road a short way in the direction of St Goarshausen, taking
the turn to the Loreley.
